Drywall Repair in San Antonio, TX
Cracks, holes, water-stained ceilings, bad texture, repaired so you'd never know. Family-owned since 2003 across San Antonio and Bexar County.
Local drywall repair done right across San Antonio
San Antonio homes are tough on walls. Expansive clay soils shift foundations and open cracks over doorways and windows, summer heat and constant AC cycling stress ceilings, and the occasional flash-flood leak leaves stained, sagging sheetrock.
Since 2003 we've patched, taped, floated, and textured homes across Bexar County, including Alamo Ranch, Converse, Leon Valley, Universal City and the neighborhoods in between. Every repair is matched to your existing wall so you can't tell where the damage was. For the north side and the Hill Country edge we have dedicated pages for Stone Oak drywall repair and drywall repair in Helotes.
Common repairs we handle
- Stress & settlement cracks: corners, over doors and windows
- Holes: doorknob, furniture, accidental, and large openings
- Water damage: roof, plumbing, and storm leaks
- Texture matching: orange peel, knockdown, popcorn
- Nail pops & tape seams: bubbling, peeling joints
- Full re-hang: remodels, garage conversions, additions
Older homes and custom homes need different repairs
Many of the houses inside Loop 410, in Alamo Heights, Olmos Park, Terrell Hills and Monte Vista, date from the 1920s to the 1950s. A lot of them have plaster walls rather than drywall and sit on pier-and-beam foundations that move with the seasons, which is why the same cracks over doors and windows keep coming back. Those walls need plaster repair, not a drywall patch.
The custom homes on the north side, in The Dominion, Shavano Park, Stone Oak and Timberwood Park, are newer drywall, but with tall ceilings, big windows and smooth or custom-textured walls that show every flaw in afternoon light. A repair there is skimmed wide and matched to the finish, and smooth walls often need a Level 5 finish before a patch stops showing.
Cracks, holes and stains: what each repair involves
Cracks
Where a crack runs tells you what caused it. A straight crack along a taped seam is a joint that has let go, and it gets cut open, re-bedded with tape in setting-type compound and floated flat. Caulk or a skim of premixed mud over it will open again within a season. Diagonal cracks running up from the corners of doors and windows point to movement in the house; read what foundation cracks in drywall mean before patching them. A straight crack along the ceiling line that opens every winter is usually truss uplift, which needs a different fix.
Holes
Nail and anchor holes are filled and sanded. A doorknob-size hole gets a patch with backing behind it so it does not sink. Anything bigger than a hand gets a new piece of drywall screwed to the framing or to wood blocking, then taped, floated and textured to match, because a large patch floated over nothing cracks at the edges.
Water stains
Stop the water first. In San Antonio a stained ceiling is most often the air conditioner, not the roof: a clogged condensate line or an overflowing drain pan in the attic. If the stained board is dry and still firm, it can be sealed with a stain-blocking primer and repainted. If it is soft, sagging or swollen, it is cut out and replaced. More on that in wet drywall: dry it or replace it and on our water damage repair page.
Nail pops and bubbling tape
Nail pops are fasteners pushed out as the framing dries and settles. They are reset with drywall screws beside the old nail, then spotted and touched up. Tape that has bubbled or peeled is cut out and re-bedded, not glued back down.
How a repair visit works
- Send a photo. Text a picture of the damage to 210-617-8597 so we can tell you what the repair involves.
- Written estimate. Free, and in writing, before any work starts.
- Patch, tape and float. Each coat of compound has to dry before the next, so a repair is built up in layers rather than in one thick pass.
- Texture match. The texture is tested on a scrap board and adjusted to the grain already on your wall.
- Prime and paint. The repair is primed and the wall painted corner to corner so the patch does not show as a different sheen.
Drywall or Sheetrock?
Same thing. Sheetrock is a brand name for gypsum wallboard that became the everyday word for it, so sheetrock repair and drywall repair mean the same job. Homes built before about the 1950s often have plaster instead, which is repaired differently.

What drywall repair costs in San Antonio
Most homeowners want a number before they call. Small repairs (nail pops, doorknob holes, a few hairline cracks) usually fall in a flat service-call range. Larger or more involved work is quoted by the square foot after a quick look. A few things move the price:
- Size & number of repairs: one patch vs. several rooms
- Texture match: knockdown and popcorn take more skill than smooth
- Water damage: drying, insulation, and mold add scope
- Ceiling vs. wall: overhead work is slower
- Paint to match: whole-wall repaint vs. spot
- Access: high ceilings, tight spaces, occupied homes
We give a free written estimate before any work starts. No surprises, and our texture-match guarantee means the repair blends in or we make it right.

San Antonio drywall repair FAQs
How much does drywall repair cost in San Antonio?
Small repairs like nail pops, doorknob holes, and hairline cracks fall in a flat service-call range, while larger water-damage or ceiling repairs are quoted per square foot after an on-site look. A-Best gives free, no-obligation estimates before any work starts.
Can you match my existing wall and ceiling texture?
Yes. Most of our repair work is texture matching. We hand- and spray-match common San Antonio textures including orange peel, knockdown, and popcorn ceilings so the repair blends into the surrounding wall.
Do you repair water-damaged drywall and ceilings?
Yes. After a roof, plumbing, or storm leak we cut out the damaged drywall, dry the cavity, replace insulation if needed, then re-hang, tape, float, texture, and paint to match.
What areas around San Antonio do you serve?
All of San Antonio and Bexar County, including Alamo Ranch, Converse, Leon Valley, Universal City and the neighborhoods between. Stone Oak, Helotes, Boerne and Schertz each have their own dedicated page.
Do I need to repaint the whole wall after a drywall patch?
Usually, yes. New compound absorbs paint differently than the painted wall around it, so a spot-painted patch dries to a different sheen and shows as a dull or shiny square. Priming the repair and painting the wall corner to corner is what makes it blend in.
Is a crack in my drywall a foundation problem?
Not always. A straight crack along a taped seam is usually a joint that has let go. Diagonal cracks off the corners of doors and windows, doors that stick, and cracks that keep widening point to foundation movement and are worth having checked before the wall is repaired. See foundation cracks in drywall.
Can you fix nail pops?
Yes. Each popped nail is reset with a drywall screw beside it, the old head is set below the surface, and the spots are filled, sanded and touched up to match the wall.
What is the difference between drywall and Sheetrock?
There is none for a repair. Sheetrock is a brand name for gypsum wallboard, and in Texas people use the two words for the same material. Older homes may have plaster instead, which is repaired differently.
